Letterpress Studio: Celebrating All Types *SOLD OUT*

Times: Workshops are offered for 90 minutes at 4 times (Choose one session time to attend)

  • Friday, October 21 at 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, October 22 at 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 to 12:30 p.m.

Cost: $10 materials fee (covers ink, paper, and other supplies)

About the Studio: Imagine a more inclusive future by working with design tools from the past. Press for change by participating in Celebrating All Types — a letterpress movement inspiring reflection and civic action with handset wood type and ink! Be inspired by Celebrating All Types posters created by letterpress artists from all over the country, then get your hands dirty as you share your own message with your community. Your printed voice will be displayed and documented at the conference, and is yours to keep.

Type Studio: An Introduction to Type Design

Time: 9 hour workshop that takes place over three consecutive mornings (Must be able to attend all three sessions)

  • Saturday, October 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 

Cost: $125 

About the Studio: Bring a typeface you have always wanted to make, and move it from analog to digital or from vectors to glyphs. Get precise instruction and guidance from Radek Sidun the Czech who has brought you the Manual of Diacritics and dozens of misbehaving letterforms at BriefcaseType.


Lettering Studio: Handmade Scripts *SOLD OUT*

Times: 3 hour workshop, offered at two times (Choose one session to attend)

Cost: Materials fee of $30 (includes 6 markers, handouts, and how-to instructional booklet to take home with you) 

About the Studio: Hand lettering should be fun and easy. With the right tools and the right teacher you too can make everything feel like a 1980's middle America Grocery Store... Learn how to write fast to get great scripts that you can use in your work and turn into vectors. 

But really there's more—every person who registers for this workshop gets a set of Petra Pens. This is taught by Petra Dočekalová The Director of Quality at BriefcaseType.
 


Glassblowing Studio: Hands-on in the Hot Shop *SOLD OUT*

Instructional Organization: Seattle Glassblowing Studio (OFFSITE)
Times: 3 hour workshop, offered at two times (Choose one session to attend)

  • Friday, October 21 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 
  • Saturday, October 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Cost: Materials fee of $175 (includes one glass-blown object to take home, hot shop rental, and studio worker gratuity) 

About the Studio: Join your fellow designers for a one-of-a-kind offsite experience. Attendees will go  hands-on in the Seattle Glassblowing Studio hot shop, choosing their own glass shapes and color applications and utilizing proper blowing techniques to create a piece of glass artwork that is theirs to keep after the cooling period. Attendees will work with an experienced glassblower throughout the session. Typical shape options include ornaments, seafloats and bowls. Pieces take time to cool and are ready for pickup starting 2 days later. Seattle Glassblowing Studio can also coordinate shipping. Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to walk. It's about a 15 minute walk from the Convention Center. 

Optional on your own: Visit the Chihuly Garden and Glass immediately after your studio hours, which offers the most comprehensive selection of Dale Chihuly's work. Admission includes access to Exhibition Galleries, Glasshouse and Garden.
